Youth Guidance/City Life
|
The Youth Guidance ministry works in conjunction with institutional,
juvenile justice, or social service agency contacts and functions in
order to connect with young people to help them make good choices and
establish a solid foundation in life.
In 1995 The National Research Council Panel on High-Risk Youth estimated
that “25% of our young people today are deemed "at-risk youth." The
National Youth Guidance Department defined an at-risk young person as a
young person who has experienced significant damage and is likely to
damage the lives of others. A "significantly damaged life" is defined as
the presence of negative influences (or the absence of positive
influences) that increase the likelihood of destructive life choices.
That estimate was 14 years ago. Since then our culture has continued to
change, the level of need has increased and ministry has continued to
restructure itself to reach additional areas of need. One of those areas
is identified as City Life. Its purpose is to meet students in their
neighborhood or small communities and help young people develop
attitudes and behavior patterns that allow them to function more
constructively in society.
|
The City Life program emphasizes the following:
1) Teaching basic life skills.
2) Providing an opportunity for a relationship with a caring adult role
model.
3) Promoting and developing positive self-image through Jesus Christ.
4) Creating opportunities for positive peer group experiences.
5) Sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
While all of the Youth for Christ ministries share the same purpose they
meet and interact with students in different areas.
At Heartland You for Christ, we are reaching out to both of these areas
of ministry.
Today is your opportunity.
